Hello parents/guardians…I hope you are enjoying your long weekend! Our staff has been preparing for a week and are very excited to welcome your sons & daughters to the building…it is going to be a great year!
Please note a few items below in preparation for the 2017-18 school year:
1) This year, our School Learning Improvement Plan will focus on reducing the number of “Unexcused Absences” (AU) for our students…these are the absences that have not been verified by a parent or guardian. We can all agree that being in class is very important for academic success. Our automated phone system will contact you if there have been any AUs recorded throughout the day…please contact our office the next morning to either validate or to discuss the absence. Our goal is focused on creating an academic environment that allows your child to be successful in all classes.
2) The school will be open tonight (Monday, Sept. 4) from 5-6pm for any students wanting to select a locker, drop off school supplies or familiarize themselves with the building. Grade 9 students are welcome to come in to try those pesky locks again, as well. Returning students were asked to keep their locks over the summer, if it has been misplaced, new locks will be available tomorrow for $5. Please remember that we require every student to use a lock that is distributed by the school…no personal locks are permitted.
3) Due to fire preventative policies established by the province, we will no longer have microwaves available for student use. Please ensure that packed lunches do not require heating. Sorry for the inconvenience.
4) Tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 5) is day 1 of the 2017-18 school year…we will open the day with an assembly in the gym at 8:45. We will proceed to our Christian Ethics class to register and pay school fees. The remainder of the day will follow the regular bell schedule.
We are going to have a great year! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Please visit and bookmark our Vanier website for updated information (important dates, bell schedules, academic calendars, parent notes, sports league schedules, etc.). “Like” us on Facebook and “Follow” us on Twitter to get additional information and highlights throughout the year.
Enjoy the remainder of your long weekend,
