One-to-One Technology for Students
Code: AP 145
Background
The Division believes that students need to be provided with appropriate technology to facilitate and enhance 21st century learning.
Procedures
1. Acceptable use practices and procedures shall be followed by all users as indicated in AP 140.
2. All devices assigned to a student shall be inventoried by the Division.
3. Students are expected to have the device at school during class time.
4. Students are allowed and encouraged to take the device home.
5. The device shall first and foremost be used for education.
6. For Vanier students, the device shall have a dollar value set before providing it to the student and will depreciate according to the appendices to this procedure. Vanier students may opt to purchase the device upon leaving the division and the residual value must be paid at that time (No less than $1).
7. The Division maintains the right to monitor the device and will regularly monitor usage during the regular school day. Families are required to monitor usage outside of the regular school day. For Vanier students, the Division relinquishes this right upon the student purchasing the device.
8. If the device is lost, then the assigned student will be charged the purchase value of the device. Upon the receipt of the purchase value, the student will be provided with a replacement device with no change to the residual value.
a) The device is considered lost if it is not checked in online for more than 60 days or if a student has borrowed a device for 10 days in a 21-day period. In the event the lost device is found, the student/family will be reimbursed for the fee collected.
9. If the device is deemed to have been damaged from misuse, the repair costs will be charged to the student. If there is an issue with the device that is diagnosed to be no fault of the student, Holy Trinity Catholic School Division will cover the cost of the repair.
a) The Holy Trinity Catholic School Division Technology Team will make the diagnosis.
