Elections Canada Opportunity for Students

Elections Canada is struggling to recruit enough election workers in Saskatchewan to staff all the polls on election day, Monday, September 20. There are lots of jobs available all across the province.

Any student who is 16 or older and a Canadian citizen is eligible to work at the polls. As we’ve discussed in our ACOE meetings this is a great opportunity to see democracy in action, practice active citizenship, gain work experience, build resumés, and get paid at the same time. We know students will have to miss school for a day but, as we’ve discussed, poll work provides a rich learning opportunity.

Would you help us spread the word to grade 11 and 12 teachers in Saskatchewan that Elections Canada is actively seeking students who are 16 or older to work on election day? They can apply on Elections Canada’s website or reach out to their local returning officer by going on the Elections Canada homepage, entering their postal code, and finding out the name and number of the Returning Officer.
