Vanier - Start-up Note

Hello Vanier Families!

We are so excited to get rolling on Tuesday, Sept. 8!  If you have not already, please make sure to take a few minutes to review the "Vanier Re-Open Plan" on our website (https://vanier.htcsd.ca/)...it will likely answer some questions that you may still have.

The staff at Vanier have been working hard in preparation of face-to-face learning and are so excited to have our students back in the building.  Along with the obvious COVID-related protocols and procedures, we have experienced a number of changes since we were last in the building.

We welcome Mrs. Tiffany Owens as our new Vice-Principal.  We also welcome Mrs. Gillian Muench and Mr. Robert Haakenson to our teaching staff.  We also have three interns joining us - Ms. Heisler, Ms. Hambly and Mr. Senecal.

The school will no longer be using PowerSchool as our Student Information System, we have moved to a new platform called EDSBY.  You will be receiving information in the near future on how to sign up to keep updated on academics, attendance and communications from the school.  This switch to a new data system forced us to change a summer procedure of mailing out schedules.  I am hopeful that the majority of you were able to connect with the school when our teachers made phone calls this past week.  However, if you were unable or forget some of the information, we will be distributing full-year schedules to all students on Tuesday.  If students are unsure where to go first, we will have staff available with class lists to direct students to their Period 1 classrooms.

We were also fortunate to be approved for a roofing project over the summer...no more leaks!  We will start off the year with a slight detour for our Student Parking Lot patrons.  Please do not use the Henleaze Ave entrance to the lot, it is completely blocked off by contractor fencing.  The lot is accessible via 4th Avenue and students will have a safe walking pathway to and from the school from the lot.

We would also like to make you aware that we will have a service dog in our school this year.  Please take a moment to read the attached letter (Service Dog letter.pdf) and please remind your child that service dogs are here to do a job.  We do not play with them or call out their name.  We will certainly work with students to remind them of the appropriate actions around the dog.

Finally - I would like to thank everyone for your patience throughout this re-open process.  We have been staying up-to-date with all protocols from the Saskatchewan government and our school division in establishing a a safe environment for our students and staff.  Again, we are so excited to have students back in our classrooms!

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reply to this email or call the school (306-693-6744).

Enjoy the long weekend!
